The last theme park from our vacation was Universal Studios Hollywood. It was great. We were able to see and do just about everything (except Jurassic Park, which was closed, and Harry Potter, which isn’t open yet).
We started off the day doing the tour. We didn’t have to wait too long in the line, things moved pretty fast. We ended up being the very front of the line and getting seats in the front of the tram. The kids loved it.
After the tour we went down the escalators to the lower lot. While the bigger kids and daddy went on the Mummy and Transformers, I took the little kids to the Jurassic Park play area. We also got pictures of some of the characters milling about. We spent the rest of the day in the upper lot.
We got to the upper lot just in time for the special effects show, got seats just minutes before it started. It was a hot day, so sitting the nice cool building was great. Then we went on the Simpsons Ride. My kids don’t know too much about the Simpsons, so didn’t get some of the jokes and things. But, they enjoyed being in their own private car for the ride. I think the line for the Simpsons was the longest one we had to stand in, and even then it was only 15-20 minutes, and had show clips playing on TV screens to keep the kids occupied.
After the Simpsons, the kids wanted to go to the Minions ride. This was kind of a long line, but lots of people go on at once, so it moved along pretty good. My youngest didn’t want to stand at the height bar to prove he could go on the ride, so it took a few minutes to convince him. I had the others just go on without us, so they went and got in line. A few minutes later I got the little one calmed down and he showed us how tall he was, so we were able to go in. The people in line let us squeeze by to cut in with the rest of our family, so nice.
After the Minions, we spent a some time playing in Super Silly Fun Land while deciding where to go next. We ended up walking around seeing characters for a little while, heading toward Shrek. We got there just before they closed the doors for that one, so we had almost no wait (love that!). After Shrek it was time for yet another potty break. While there we caught up with my parents, and we all went to see the Animal Actors show. After the show we decided to go home. We actually could have hurried over to WaterWorld and seen the last show of the day, but the kids were tired so we skipped it.
The kids were happy to have seen and done pretty much everything there was to do, and only disappointed that Harry Potter wasn’t open yet. I guess we’ll just have to come back some time to see it.
